Finding New Motivation in God: Coming Out of a Season of Apathy

These past few months (since late 2022, really), I found myself in a place that I never truly expected. A place where motivation seemed to slip through my fingers, where the daily tasks that once fueled my passion now felt overwhelming, even impossible. I prayed fervently for God to pull me out of this emotional and mental rut that 2024 seemed intent on keeping me in. It felt as if I was whirling around the stratosphere, grasping for something solid to hold on to while life spun faster and faster.

Yet, in the middle of the confusion, God was always there. He was my anchor, the steady hand that comforted and encouraged me, even when I didn’t feel like I had the strength to move forward. God wasn’t just holding me in my weakness; He was stretching me—gently pushing me beyond what I thought I could handle. Little did I know, He was preparing me for something greater.

In the midst of that quiet struggle, everything shifted.

It wasn’t a loud, dramatic change, but a gentle spiritual shift—a fresh wind of inspiration that rushed in when I least expected it. Suddenly, the fog began to lift, and with it came a renewed sense of purpose. God breathed new motivation into my heart, and the ideas started flowing in abundance. Where there had been emptiness and uncertainty, I now felt an overflow of creativity, clarity, and divine direction. It was as if God was saying, “Now, let’s move forward together.”

A Season of Apathy Doesn’t Mean God Has Forgotten You

If you’re in a season where motivation feels out of reach, I want to encourage you: you are not forgotten. These seasons of apathy, exhaustion, and even confusion are not signs of failure. In fact, they are often the moments where God is doing His deepest work in us. He sees the frustration, the weariness, and the tears you may have shed in private. He knows how it feels to long for purpose, for movement, and to wonder why things aren’t coming together as they should.

But just because you don’t feel motivated doesn’t mean God isn’t moving. Often, He uses these periods of stillness to prepare us for the next chapter. We tend to equate lack of productivity with lack of purpose, but God’s ways are higher than ours. He’s not rushing to meet deadlines—He’s refining us, stripping away the things that have weighed us down, so that when the moment comes, we can rise with renewed strength, fully ready to walk in our calling.

The Importance of Rest and Trust

During this season, God taught me the value of rest—true, spiritual rest. Not just physical breaks or time off from responsibilities, but a rest that comes from releasing my worries, ambitions, and even my timeline into His hands. I had to let go of my need to control the outcome and trust that God was working things out, even when I couldn’t see it. Sometimes, we’re so focused on pushing through that we forget the beauty of simply resting in His presence, allowing Him to realign our hearts with His.

Rest isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of trust. When we rest in God, we give Him room to replenish our weary souls. It’s in those quiet moments that He speaks the loudest, and when the time is right, He’ll send the motivation, clarity, and direction we need to move forward.

When the Shift Comes, Embrace It

When that shift finally came for me, I knew it was God. The ideas began to flow, and with them came a sense of peace and excitement. It was as if He had been waiting for the perfect moment to release this new wave of inspiration, and now that I was ready, He flooded my heart with vision and direction. It wasn’t just about me getting back to work; it was about partnering with God in a deeper way than I ever had before.

This season of apathy taught me something invaluable: that God’s timing is perfect, and He doesn’t waste any part of our journey. Every delay, every quiet moment, and every struggle has a purpose. And when the shift happens—when that fresh wind of inspiration comes—it’s not just about accomplishing tasks or meeting goals. It’s about aligning our hearts with God’s will, so that we can pour out what He’s placed in us for the benefit of others.

A Word of Encouragement

If you’re still in the waiting season, hold on. God hasn’t forgotten you. Just because you’re not moving at the pace you envisioned doesn’t mean He’s not preparing you for something extraordinary. Keep seeking Him, keep resting in His presence, and trust that in His perfect timing, the shift will come. And when it does, you’ll see that all the stretching, all the refining, and all the waiting were not in vain.

As for those who are experiencing their own spiritual shift, embrace it with open arms. Allow God to lead you, inspire you, and move through you in ways that go beyond what you could have planned for yourself. This journey we’re on is about partnership—He’s always with us, guiding and shaping us for His glory.

I am honored to be able to continue creating and sharing in this season, and I pray that whatever comes next for you will be filled with God’s purpose, joy, and new motivation. The journey may be long, but remember: God is always faithful. One step at a time, with Him, we’ll get to where we’re meant to be.

Talk soon, xoxo <3
